The Origin of Dim Sum

A centuries-old afternoon tradition with roots in southern China, dim sum, which translates to โ€œtouch the heartโ€ in Chinese, was originally crafted as delicate snacks to be served alongside tea during travels. Today, dim sum is enjoyed across China, with each region boasting its own distinct array of unique dishes.

The Significance of 8

Available from the 8th of October, the innovative Bei Fang Dim Sum Series introduces eight northern-style dim sum dishes, which have been created by the global team of chefs across all Hutong restaurants. The number eight was not chosen randomly; it is considered a lucky number in Chinese tradition, provoking feelings of prosperity with the similarity of the Chinese pronunciation of the two words โ€œbaโ€ (8) and โ€œfaโ€ (prosperity).
